PEER TO PEER NETWORK

                              PEER TO PEER NETWORK

A network of two or more computer that used to same program or type of program to communicate and share data. Each computer, or peer, is considered equal in terms of responsibilities and each acts as a server to the other in the network. Unlike a client/server architecture, a dedicated file server is not required. However, network performance is generally not as good as under client/server, especially under heavy loads.

Peer to peer networks work best in small environment. All the computers  on the network require individual administration and maintenance. You should not use peer to peer network incase more then 10 computers are to be connected together.

Peer to Peer Network

Resources:-

Resources include printers and modems. they are usually connected to one computer on a peer to peer network. The computer then share these resources with other computers on the network.

Programs:-

Most software applications, such as word processer and spreadsheet programs, used one peer to peer network are installed on each computers. Users can uses the program on their computers to view and work with document created by other network printers a documents.

Installation:-

The network operating system and all application must be installed on each computer on a peer to peer network. Each must also be setup individually to share and access information and resources on the network. Users should learn how to administer their own computers. there is usually no dedicated system administrator for a peer to peer network.

Gaining Access to resources:-

On a peer to peer network, if a computer is not functioning properly the other computer on the network will not be able to access the computer's file and the resources. How ever , file and resources on other computer on the network will not be affected.

Security:-

On a peer to peer network, users store file and information on there own computers. Anyone may be able to access the information on another user's computer by using the computer. So information is less secure on peer to peer network.

Cost:-

The cost of peer to peer network is generally low since a few computer's are connected. As a peer to peer network grows, the system can become quite expensive.
