STAR NETWORK
Star networks are one of the most common computer network is comprised of computers connected to a central network connector, which is usually a hub or a switch. All information that transfers form one computer to another on the network passes via the hub or switch.
Each computer on a star network must be located in close proximity to the central network connector. Cable lengths between a computer and the connector should be less than 100 meters. Hubs and switches commonly connect up 24 computer.
In a large office building, it has been seen that each floor of the building has its own hub or switch. The hubs or switches can then be connected to form one large local area network.
Expansion: If there is a free port on the central network connect another computer to a star network when new computers are connected.
Troubleshooting: When an error occurs on a computer or cable, the rest of the network connectors have the ability to detect errors and then isolate the problem areas form the rest of the network. When a hub or switch crashes, information can no longer be exchanged among the computers.
Cost: Star networks cost more to implement Each computer on a star network must be connected to a network hub or switch. Large amounts of cable are also used in star networks because each computer on the network must be independently connected
